Former Home and Away star Johnny Ruffo has shared an update on his health after battling life threatening brain cancer.

In an interview with Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa, the actor turned singing sensation revealed he’s feeling great and “currently clear of cancer”.

“Let’s hope that continues – I’ve got a scan next Thursday,” he said, prompting the radio hosts to note how well he looked.

“I’ve gotten the all clear, so no more cancer. I’ve just got to hope it stays that way,” he added.

“It’s great news,” Fitzy & Wippa agreed.

Johnny also revealed he’s been back in the studio and has written three new songs which will be released soon.

In 2017, Johnny discovered he had a tumour in his brain after his girlfriend Tahnee Sims rushed him to the hospital when he complained of a severe headache.

“I was just at home and I had a headache, but everyone has headaches and you never think much of it,” he tells Who Are You podcast host Pete Timbs.

“It had been ongoing and it just got worse and worse. It got to about 4 or 5 in the afternoon and I couldn’t speak, I couldn’t communicate with her [Tahnee] at all.”

That’s when Tahnee decided she had to take Johnny to the hospital. At first he was told it was just a migraine, but was told to stay overnight for testing.

The next morning doctors phoned Tahnee and revealed that her boyfriend had fallen into a coma, had a brain tumour and would have to undergo emergency surgery to remove it.

In January, Johnny told Daily Mail Australia his fight with the illness may finally be over for good.

‘I’m going really good. My next scan is in three weeks and provided that’s all clear then I’m in the clear completely,’ he revealed.

‘That will be my last scan for now and then I’ve got to get another one every three months – you’ve got to keep checking up on it.’
