The director of the Oscars, Glenn Weiss won the award for outside directing for a variety special at the 2018 Emmy Awards, but he also won himself a new fiancée when he used his screen time to propose to his girlfriend Jen Todd.
Weiss begun his acceptance speech by saying, “I’m really grateful to be here, but it’s bittersweet. The person most proud at this moment would be my mum, and she passed away just two weeks ago,”
“Mum always believed in finding the sunshine in things, and she adored my girlfriend Jan. Jan, you are the sunshine in my life. And mum was right, don’t ever let go of your sunshine. You wonder why I don’t like to call you my girlfriend — because I wanna call you my wife.”
The crowd erupted into excited shrieks and yells as Jen reacted in happy shock. Looking stunning in a silver lamé Sachin & Babi gown, she walked up to the stage as the crowd encouraged her.
Weiss revealed that had his mother’s engagement ring while reassuring his siblings back home that their father was aware he had it.
He continued, “Jan, I want to put this ring, that my mom wore, on your finger in front of all of these people and in front of my mom and your parents watching from above. Will you marry me?”
He then proceeded to slip the ring on her finger as he got down on one knee.
The happy couple shared a kiss before Weiss finished his speech with a, “Thank you to the Academy!”
Celebrities in the audience proceeded to go crazy with happiness and excitement. Some celebrities even shed tears while others remained stunned at what had just happened.
