And, when it comes to the competition, Melbourne based chippies and brothers, Tim, 32, and Mat, 27, think that they will have the upper hand due to “our background in carpentry and building, along with being able to visualise things before they are put together”, says Tim.

Although, they are sure to have their work cut out for them as newlyweds, Lisa, 30, and Andy, 32, reveal that they have previously renovated a home. “[Andy] thinks he did it all himself but I organised the tradies,” laughs Lisa.

Meanwhile, renovation rookies, Mikaela, 24, and Eliza are hoping their hardworking attitude will get them through. “How hard can it be?” Eliza, 21, laughs. The Western Australia based sisters are hoping to give back to their beloved mum, Kristen, by renovating the family home so she can have a fresh start after her divorce.

As for married couple Katie and Alex, they thought they’d found the perfect home in their little cottage built in the 1800s. But, it wasn’t long before reality set in for the couple. “It’s small and falling down,” admits Alex. Can the couple get their dream home?

The opportunity to upgrade their home for their two daughters, Harper,5, and Imogen, 3, is a dream come true for bubbly couple Shayn and Carly. “Our family is fast outgrowing the house,” says Shayn, 33.

But, despite their happy-go- lucky facade, Carly, 31, admits that she can be competitive. “I don’t like losing,” she laughs.

“I don’t even like to lose board games.”

Of course, it wouldn’t be House Rules without some drama and married dance teachers Pete and Courtney are set to bring it as they are determined to do what it takes to win. “We’re not really interested in second place,” Pete dishes. Plus, he isn’t afraid to say what he thinks. “My weakness is not being able to bite my tongue.”
