A pregnant teen has been charged with manslaughter after fatally shooting her boyfriend in a YouTube stunt gone wrong.
According to the Star Tribune, 19-year-old Mona Lisa Perez was recording a segment for her vlog when she accidently shot her 22-year-old beau Pedro Ruiz in the chest at their house in Norman County.
The Minnesota woman called 911 and emergency services rushed to the scene, but were unable to save his life.
The expectant mum reportedly told police that Ruiz had “convinced” her to pull the trigger on a .50-calibre Desert Eagle gun, believing that the encyclopaedia he was holding would stop the bullet.
Taking to Twitter on Monday, Perez revealed their intentions for the prank.
Speaking with WDAY-TV, Ruiz’ aunt Claudia said that he had explained that he wanted to do the stunt to obtain “more viewers” and “get famous.”
The couple’s three-year-old daughter was present at the time of the incident.
Perez faces a maximum sentence of 10 years behind bars and a fine of $20,000.
She is expected to appear in court today.
