This flu season has claimed another victim after an ACT mum died from a deadly case of influenza.
Mother of two, Jennifer Thew, passed away after suffering acute respiratory distress syndrome.
It is believed Jennifer may have contracted the virus from her seven-year-old daughter, Estella.
Thew, who worked as a medical receptionist, had been vaccinated against the virus.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help the grieving family, who spoke out about her death in a statement.
‘Jen was a beautiful, gentle soul and, above all, the most devoted mother,’ they said in a statement to The Daily Telegraph.
‘We are absolutely heartbroken that she has been taken from us in such cruel circumstances.’
According to the federal health department, 73 deaths have been confirmed in relation to the deadly outbreak.
Over 1800 cases of influenza have been reported in the ACT. One pregnant Melbourne mother remains in a critical condition after contracting the illness in the final stages of pregnancy.
