A family were left hunting for answers after returning home to discover their floors and walls covered in blood spatters.
‘We didn’t see anything wrong nothing at the front door,’ Tristan Murrin told 8News.
‘We noticed something when we walked in, when I walked in with my mother and there is blood spots on the ground, we looked up stairs and you see trails of blood coming from up stairs going all the way down.’
When the family dog trotted up to them, however, the pieces began to fall into place.
A number of break-ins had been reported in the local area, so the Murrin’s assumed a would-be robber broke into their home only to be greeted by their large German Shepherd, who then decided to defend the family home.
‘He knew that someone was not supposed to be in my house and no one was home… he was doing something that he wasn’t supposed to be doing and so he knew to act upon it,’ Murrin says.
The family added that they have never seen aggressive behaviour from the dog before, and said that he’s friendly with the neighbours and very gentle with their young child.
Apart from the gory scene, there was no sign of the burglar around the area, though it is likely that he would need medical attention. The Murrins hope that sharing their story will help finally stop the spate of break-ins across their community.
