The intimate black and white image, which shows his other half adjusting the politician’s cuff, has been greeted with a wild response by supporters of the openly gay candidate.

‘What a touching, intimate photo,’ wrote one supporter, while another shared, ‘Love love love, what a precious moment.’

Added a third, ‘I love and all that it means. I can’t wait for more pictures like this from the White House. ❤️❤️.’

The picture is the latest viral moment for the ground breaking couple, who last week covered TIME magazine in the US under the headline, ‘First Family’.

Earlier in the week, Buttigieg jammed with Jimmy Fallon, and deflected an insult from President Donald Trump, who compared the Afghanistan war veteran to MAD magazine mascot, Alfred E Newman.

Buttigieg responded with a zinger of his own, quipping he had to ‘Google that’ adding, ‘guess it’s a generational thing.’

He later told Fallon that at least he had managed to raise the level of discourse by inspiring Trump to make a literary reference. Ouch!

The rising political star is also attracting plenty of support in Hollywood – recently appearing at a benefit organised by Gwyneth Paltrow, and with Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom reportedly hosting an upcoming event for him in LA.

At just 37 years old, Pete has a political background as the mayor of the small city of South Bend, Indiana, earning him the ongoing nickname, ‘Mayor Pete’. Coming out of nowhere among a field of contenders much more well-known – including Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders – he suddenly became a major presidential contender with a rapturous response to his CNN Town Hall performance.

Pete is not only the first major openly gay presidential candidate, but he married junior high school teacher Chasten – who took his surname – in 2018, after deciding that a successful career in public life wasn’t enough without personal happiness.

‘I didn’t want to live a life that was in hiding,’ he said. ‘You only get to live one life.’
