The Masterchef winner speaks out.

Last week, the winner of MasterChef’s first series, Julie Goodwin, attempted to dodge a random breath test and was later charged with mid-range drink-driving for being above the legal limit.

The mother-of-three was heading home from a celebratory function at the time. Driving a Mini Cooper Sedan in Gosford around 8pm, Julie tried to perform a cheeky U-turn when she caught sight of the police.

When they finally tracked down the 47-year-old, she was found with a blood alcohol level of 0.107.

Following the arrest, the accomplished cook took to social media to express her regret and shame of the incident in a lengthy statement.

‘Last night while driving home from a celebratory function I had catered, I was stopped by Police and subjected to a random breath test which I failed,’ Julie lamented. ‘I have subsequently been charged with mid-range drink-driving. Needless to say, I accept full responsibility for this error in judgment, which I believe is completely out of character.’

Julie went onto express her shame for her family and community. ‘I have acted in a way so contrary to what I believe, to how I usually conduct myself, and to what I have taught my children,’ she stated.

‘Many lessons will flow from this, and I will learn from each of them. I want to take the opportunity to offer a heartfelt and unreserved apology to my family, my colleagues, and to the broader community. I would also like to apologise to everyone that has supported me over many years, I have let you all down.’

The star, who won the competition in 2009, will front the court in Gosford on May 25.

Ironically, earlier in the year, Julie expressed that her new ‘healthy mindset’ she has adopted has left her feeling fitter and more fabulous than ever!
