Is Karl Stefanovic going to be replaced by this man?

The Today show host is ‘gone’

Despite assurances from chief executive Hugh Marks, Today show host Karl Stefanovic is officially ‘gone’ from his position at channel Nine.

Sources tell Newscorp that the 45-year-old’s ‘axing is imminent’ and former Nine weather presenter Brenton Ragless is hotly tipped to become Karl’s replacement.

According to the publication, Brenton won over Nine executives with his ‘Un-Sydney Everyman’ style of reporting.

But according to insiders the Adelaide weatherman remains committed to his region

“Brenton has a clear and genuine connection with viewers in Adelaide and across the country. The big question is what it would take to convince Brenton to move to Sydney. Even if he was to be offered the job, would he want to trade an Adelaide lifestyle for a Sydney one?” an insider told Newscorp.

“He is Adelaide through and through. It will be a massive task for anyone to step in to that role and even if they are in consideration, it will come down to who actually wants the job.”

If Brenton does decline the position, there are plenty of other options including Today Extra host David Campbell or Ben Fordham. There’s even Karl’s brother Peter Stefanovic said to be in the running.

Karl’s position as the Today host came under scrutiny last year after ratings fell swiftly after his messy divorce from wife of 21 years Cassandra Thorburn and engagement to young shoe designer Jasmine Yarbrough, ten years his junior.
