Buckingham Palace confirmed that Prince Harry would attend King Charles’ coronation earlier this year.

At the time, the also palace revealed that only Harry will be present at the historic event; Harry’s wife, Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, will not attend the coronation.

“Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that The Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on May 6th,” the palace’s statement read.

“The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”

Harry was not seen interacting with his brother, Prince William, during his brief visit to London for the coronation.

Though, there may have been greater opportunity for a reunion if Harry had stuck around a little longer.

According to The Sun Harry skipped an intimate lunch with senior royals to return home to his family.

This very absence was said to have left his father “genuinely quite disappointed”, according to The Daily Mail. According to the outlet’s source, the King toasted to “those that weren’t there”, while also wishing Archie a happy birthday “wherever he was”.

He was photoraphed smiling as he hopped into a car at Westminster Abbey, shortly after that he was photographed entering the Windsor Suite at Heathrow Airport in London – still wearing his suit and medals.

The coronation was held on the same day as Archie’s fourth birthday, a key reason for Harry’s brief fly-in-fly-out approach to the day.

For months it had been speculated whether or not Harry would attend his father’s coronation considering the very public fallout he had with the royal family.

For starters, Harry and Meghan both accused the royal family of having an “unconscious bias” towards race in their Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan.

Then, Harry revealed all sorts of wild information about them in his tell-all memoir, Spare.

Most recently, Harry – while in court giving a witness statement for his case against Associated Newspapers Ltd – said that the royal family “withheld information” from him regarding phone hacking.

It’s not yet clear whether Harry would have been allowed to appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace at the coronation, as the late Queen Elizabeth II restricted the balcony to working royals – and Harry stepped back from his official duties in 2020.

Therefore, even though Harry was present at the Platinum Jubilee Trooping the Colour last year, he was excluded from the balcony.

However, Charles could break his mother’s tradition and allow Harry to stand on the balcony at the coronation. Regardless, Harry departed the city before the balcony moment occured. So royal fans may never know!
