There’s a reason why Tom Cruise is considered to be one of the silver screen’s best action heroes.
The 55-year-old star broke his ankle last year whilst filming the sixth installment of his Mission Impossible series, resulting in filming being delayed for two months whilst he recovered.
And during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show earlier this week, Tom revealed for the first time the moment he suffered the injury…in all its gruesome glory!
“I’m wearing two wires, they’re just safety wires because I go to full tilt and I’m sprinting as hard as I can and I hit the side of the wall,” he said. “That’s the stunt. I hit the side of the wall … and then I climb up on the wall and I’m supposed to run back,” he explained.
As the video begins, host Graham tells viewers: ‘If you are squeamish, don’t watch this… a bone doesn’t pop out or anything but it is an odd angle for anyone’s foot to be at.’
A video showed a slow motion clip of the actor slamming into the wall and his ankle snapping.
However, what makes the horrifying injury even more remarkable is the fact that, despite the break in the bone, Tom is then seen pulling himself up over the edge and hobbling away.
“I knew instantly my ankle was broken and I really didn’t want to do it again so just got up and carried on with the take,” he said. “I said, ‘It’s broken. That’s a wrap. Take me to hospital’ and then everyone got on the phone and made their vacation arrangements.”
Despite the two-month break in filming, the movie is still expected to make its release date of July 27 this year.
