Andy Lee is officially the new frontrunner to host the TODAY show in 2020.

The other half of Hamish and Andy was asked to try out for the top gig.
According to news.com, the network asked Andy to “fill in” on the show.
TV insider Rob McKnight dished that Channel 9 is “looking at their options”.
“I think we’re at a 50/50 split as to whether the line-up will change next year,” he told the website.
“Nine right now are looking at their options. It’s no surprise to anyone that Nine would be sitting back and going, ‘Do we continue with what we’ve got and try and evolve it or do we start again?’”
“It’s quite possible they haven’t made that final decision, but there’s no doubt conversations are taking place about scenario A, B, C and D.”
Adding further proof to the TODAY show shake-up, Sportsbet confirmed the comedian is in the top spot for the gig at $1.75
“We reckon Andy Lee would make a brilliant anchor for breakfast TV. At the moment hosts of Today and also rivals Sunrise spend most of the morning giggling at each other. At least with Andy he’s genuine,’’ said sportsbet.com.au’s Rich Hummerston.
There’s no word whether Hamish has been approached by Nine for the breakfast show.
But it wouldn’t be a stretch to see him pair up with his iconic bestie.
Currently, Hamish and Andy have their Nine show: Hamish and Andy’s Perfect Holiday.
While Hamish, 37, will return next year for Lego Masters.
It’s been revealed that Channel Nine are wanting to change their current line-up: Hosts Deb Knight and Georgie Gardner with Tom Steinfort (who replaced Sylvia Jeffreys) and Brooke Boney (who stepped into Richard Wilkins role).
And it is believed the network want former host Karl Stefanovic and ex-Weekend TODAY’s Allison Langdon to take the helm.
After the axing of his show This Time Next Year, it seems Karl Stefanovic may make a triumphant return to the Today show very soon.
“Karl has agreed to take a massive pay cut to go back to Today. He is cap in hand and begging,” a source told New Idea.
According to the source, Karl will partner with 60Minutes host Allison Langdon and together the pair have been chosen to try and boost ratings.
“They love Allison, and Karl and her are actually really good friends.”
