There are big changes going on at Channel Nine and sources tell New Idea Karl is rumoured to be heading back to the hot seat on the morning show after pleading to get his old job back – but with a pay cut.
“Karl has agreed to take a massive pay cut to go back to Today. He is cap in hand and begging,” the source says.
According to the source, Karl will partner with 60Minutes host Allison Langdon and together the pair have been chosen to try and boost ratings.
“They love Allison, and Karl and her are actually really good friends,” the source adds.
As for the rest of the Today cast, Deborah Knight has been tipped to go back to being a newscaster, a move she is reportedly “OK” with, while co-host Tom Steinfort is rumoured to be replacing Allison at 60 Minutes.
But producers are worried Karl may have lost his spark after he was dramatically sacked from Today in December 2018.
“He just toes the line and has lost his cheeky spark. That’s what made him popular,” the source explains. “So now everyone is worried he won’t be able to save the show because he thinks before he speaks and won’t be as funny.”
