You don’t get to meet a real-life prince every day, so it’s understandable that this royal fan burst into tears when she met charming Prince Harry.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the Royal Botanical Gardens in Melbourne earlier today as part of their tour of Australia.
And, university student, India Brown, had been waiting patiently among the crowds hoping to catch a glimpse of Harry.
Much to her surprise, she caught the prince’s attention with a sign explaining that she had been in love with him since she was eight. ‘Been here since 4am. Loved you since I was eight,’ the sign read.
“He is someone I have looked up to for many many years,” India told reporters.
“Everything he stands for is amazing. I’ve loved that family since I was eight and I’ve followed them around the world.”
Today, her dream of meeting him came true. When Harry greeted her she told him that she knows a hug is against royal protocol but what he said next is heart warming.
“He just said: ‘You are going to get me into trouble,’” India said. Then the prince gave her a big hug.
And, an overwhelmed India burst into tears.
“It was just such an opportunity and I just went for it. I didn’t expect it to happen because it’s actually against protocol,” she says. “He reciprocated the hug too. It was awesome.”
Now that’s one hug, she will never forget.
