The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan and Harry, are expecting their first child next year.
While Meghan will no doubt want to call her mum the minute the royal baby arrives, there is one person she must tell first – The Queen!
Royal tradition demands that The Queen must be notified first when a royal baby is born. After Her Majesty has heard the happy news, a town crier will announce it to the world.
A notice will then be placed on a billboard outside Buckingham Palace.

This tradition has been in place for decades but there are some royal birthing traditions that aren’t quite so strict anymore.
Traditionally royal babies were born at home, but Princess Diana bucked this tradition opting to give birth in The Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital.
The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate, has also given birth to all three of her children at the exclusive maternity ward.
However, Meghan is reportedly considering a home birth.

“She is a huge advocate of home births, but British royals are expected to give birth at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London,” a source told Grazia.
“Meghan doesn’t want what she calls a ‘medicalised’ birth, and instead wants to have a pool set up in a relaxing environment.
“Even Harry found this surprising, but Megs wants to ensure her birth is as natural as possible.”
