The Royals have been on the down low as they enjoy a much deserved summer break at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, but, they were out in force on September 1 to watch the annual Braemar Royal Highland Gathering in Aberdeenshire.

Queen Elizabeth II, 92, was accompanied by her two children, Prince Charles, 69, and Princess Anne, 68, to watch the traditional Scottish Highland Games.

And, the royal trio appeared to be in good spirits, sharing a few giggles from the sidelines.

Her Majesty looked striking in a turquoise coat with a matching dress and hat, while Anne opted for a classic light blue dress with a dark coat and grey hat.

But, it was Charles’ outfit that really stood out, with the royal opting for a traditional kilt paired with a blazer and vest with a colourful tie.

The Queen appeared to be thoroughly enjoying herself, pointing and clapping as she watched the competitors.

The Braemar Royal Highland Gathering has been held since 1832 and the competitions at the Highland Games include events such as tug of war and hammer throwing, along with performances from pipe bands and Highland dancers.

As patron of the Braemar Gathering, The Queen officially unveiled the new Highland Games Pavilion which will showcase the history of the Highland Games.

The Royals viewed an exhibit which includes paraphernalia from previous Highland Games including medals and trophies.

The Queen has been a fan of the games ever since she first attended with her parents back in 1933 at only seven years of age.

She has only missed the Gathering four times since taking the throne in 1952.
