It was the hat that launched a thousand memes!
But, now Sarah ‘Fergie’ Ferguson has opened up about her thoughts on the infamous hat her daughter, Princess Beatrice donned to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding back in 2011.
While Kate’s wedding dress was admired by millions of fans around the world, Beatrice’s fawn coloured topper certainly went down as one of the most divisive fashion moments the day.
And, during an interview with 60 Minutes back in 2013, Fergie revealed what she really thought of her daughter’s choice.

“I think she’s so perfect in every way,” Fergie gushed of her eldest daughter. “I think Beatrice had the most incredible outfit on, she looked really good.”
But, Fergie, who was holidaying in Thailand during the royal wedding, did admit that she would have swapped the hat for something else.
“I think if I’d been here, maybe I would have made sure that the hat, a couple of days before, was different.”

Beatrice’s hat was designed by highly acclaimed milliner Philip Treacy, who opened up about the backlash the hat received.
“There was a moment where I thought I would find myself with my head on a spike outside the Tower of London,” Philip told Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs in 2018.
“But it was a very modern hat and modernity is always unusual things.”
