Family and friends of Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg gathered at the Cathedral Notre-Dame of Luxembourg on Saturday, to celebrate his life and passing.
The Grand Duke sadly passed away at 98 years old in April, the news was broken by his son, Grand Duke Henri, releasing the following sad statement: “It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of my beloved father, His Royal Highness Grand Duke Jean, who has passed away in peace, surrounded by the affection of his family.”

Representing the royal family at the funeral was Princess Anne, who wore all black and looked upon the state funeral solemnly.
At the service the Grand Duke’s eldest son, Henri, read out his heartbreaking personal letter to his late father:
“Two days before his departure, he thanked those who cared for him, then he said goodbye to us. Those were his last words. Once more, he showed the greatness of his soul and his consideration for others. He died with the feeling of a fulfilled life.
“Thank you, Papa.”
