Prince Harry has revealed he still feels the effects of his mother’s tragic passing ‘every time’ he sees a camera.
Watch: Prince Harry opening up about losing his mother in new ITV documentary
On Thursday, ITV released a first look at their documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, which follows the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as they undertake their first royal tour since the birth of their son, Archie Harrison.
In the emotional clip, the Duke of Sussex opens up about the death of Princess Diana while in South Africa, a country that was close to her heart.
“I think being part of this family — in this role, in this job — every single time I see a camera, every single time I hear a click, every single time I see a flash, it takes me straight back,” he said.
“In that respect, it’s the worst reminder of her life as opposed to the best.”
Prince Harry continued: “Being here now 22 years later trying to finish what she started will be incredibly emotional. But everything that I do reminds me of her.
“But as I said — with the role, with the job and sort of the pressures that come with that — I get reminded of the bad stuff.”
While on their tour of Africa, Prince Hary and Meghan Markle shocked the world when they announced they would be taking legal action against the Mail on Sunday for publishing a private letter that Meghan had sent to her father, Thomas Markle.
In the statement, the Royal drew parallels between the British tabloids treatment of Meghan Markle to that of his late mother, calling it “ruthless”.
The Royal redhead finished his statement by saying his wife “continued to put on a brave face – as so many of you can relate to – I cannot begin to describe how painful it has been.”
