Meghan Markle may be Prince Harry’s wife, but she missed out on the best ring.
And who snagged one of Princess Diana’s most precious pieces of jewellery you may ask? Well, none other than the future Queen of England, Prince William’s wife Kate Middleton.
According to a new documentary, the Duchess of Cambridge was gifted a beautiful sapphire ring, a ring that was once owned by the late Princess of Wales, then later the Duke of Sussex.

The stunning sapphire ring is believed to be worth around $540,000 Australian, and now sits on the finger of Kate Middleton, in fact, it is the ring that the Duke of Cambridge used to propose to his now-wife in 2011.
So, how did the Duchess of Sussex miss out on such a gem? Well, it all comes down to timing.
In the new Amazon Prime documentary The Diana Story, Princess Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell revealed that the ring actually belonged to Prince Harry.
In the documentary, Mr Burrell said that after Princess Diana passed away in 1997 both Prince William and Prince Harry were able to pick their favourite pieces from their mother’s jewellery selection.
Mr Burrell said that when his brother was planning to propose to Kate, he offered up the sapphire ring.
“Harry said to him: ‘Wouldn’t it be fitting if she had mummy’s ring?'”, Mr Burrell recalls.
Reflecting on the ‘selfless act’, a royal expert said: “Harry gave up his precious treasure.
“His one thing he kept from his mother, he gave to his brother.
“That’s selfless, kind and exactly who Diana was.”
Don’t feel too sorry for Meghan, Prince Harry gifted his now-wife with another precious jewel of his mothers, a pavé diamond eternity ring which includes two diamonds from Diana.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were married on May 19, 2018 and share one child togheter – Archie Harrison Mountbattem-Windsor.
