According to a royal documentary Princess Anne was left shocked when she found out Prince Edward was leaving the royal marines.

So surprised was she of her brother’s decision, she ‘nearly put her car in a ditch!’ when she learned of him wanting to leave the marines in 1987 just four months after traning.
British documentary “Royal Scandals”, spoke to royal author Ingrid Seward, who was writing a biography of Prince Edward at the time.
”Prince Edward was home for the weekend and he told his family that he was going to quit the Marines,” Ms Seward said.
“They said, ‘Don’t be ridiculous,’ and they talked him round.”
“And he drove back to his base camp the next morning and handed in his resignation.”
“Princess Anne was driving back to Gloucestershire and nearly put her car in a ditch when she heard on the radio that Edward had resigned.
“The last thing that she knew, they’d had this really good talk, and he’d said he’d stay in .”
“Some members of the Royal Family felt that he’d let the side down,” added Daily Mail editor Richard Kay.
