“She’ll be crowned queen consort, much in the same way the Queen Mother was [to Queen Elizabeth II’s father, George VI.]”

Of course, it will be some time yet before we see Kate coroneted as Prince William is second in line to the throne after his father, but that doesn’t stop us from drooling over the crown she will sport!

The jaw-dropping piece was created by the then crown jeweler, Garrard & Co. in 1937 for Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.

The crown is decorated with around 2800 diamonds, with the most notable being the 105-carat Koh-i-Noor diamond in the middle of the front cross.

The diamond was acquired by the East India Company and presented to Queen Victoria in 1851.

Upon Victoria’s death the stone became part of the Crown Jewels and has been used on a number of crowns including that of Queen Alexandra and Queen Mary before being transferred to the Queen Mother’s crown.
