William and Kate met during their university days but the young prince was romantically linked to a number of eligible girls before he fell for Kate, including Carly.

But, it was during a dinner party back in 2002 that the alleged confrontation between the two women took place.

Royal Author, Katie Nicholl reveals in her book, The Making of a Royal Romance, the group decided to play a game of ‘never have I ever’.

The game sees people take turns at revealing something they have never done and if someone has done it they must drink a shot.

But, when it was Carly’s turn to play things went quickly downhill.

“When it was Carly’s turn to play she announced, ‘I’ve never dated two people in this room,’ knowing full well that William was the only one who had because Kate was sitting next to him,” a oparty attendant revealed in the biography.

An embarrassed William is believed to have “shot a thunderous look” at his ex before whispering to her “I can’t believe you just said that.”

Of course, the awkward confrontation is said to have left Kate reeling and the duchess reportedly spoke very little to Carly ever again.

Partygoers were “in shock” at Carly’s bold statement as the two were still in the early days of their romance.

“We knew they were together but it was the first time William confirmed his and Kate’s relationship in public,” the source added.
