Joanne Vitiello – the mother of celebrity chef Cory Vitiello – tweeted a feirce defence of her son’s ex-girlfriend, after 72 female members of British Parliament signed an open letter in support of the Duchess of Sussex.

The now deleted tweet read: “It’s about time! So sad and shocking to see there is so much jealous, hostility and bullying directed her way.”

Meghan and Cory Vitiello dated for two years before the former Suits actress met Prince Harry, commencing their relationship in May 2014 before splitting in May 2016.

It is rumored that Meghan broke up with Cory just weeks before first meeting the Duke of Sussex, with the Duchess of Sussex even dedicating an article on her now closed blog The Tig, to Cory.

“And maybe that’s part of it,” Meghan began her ode to Cory.

“The small-town charm and moral compass of someone who doesn’t come from the big city, but dreams big thoughts and makes them happen – that makes his food so approachable yet inspired.”

Yesterday, Meghan Markle found a surprise set off allies in the U.K. parliament, as parliamentary women stood up in solidarity of the Duchess.

Seventy-two female members of Parliament showed their solidarity of Meghan in a powerful open letter, led by Holly Lynch of the Labour Party.

“Women MPs from all political parties have put aside our differences to stand in solidarity with the Duchess of Sussex today and are sending her this open letter,” Lynch wrote on Twitter, along with images of the letter.

“On occasions, stories and headlines have represented an invasion of your privacy and have sought to cast aspersions about your character, without any good reason,” the letter reads.

“Even more concerning still, we are calling out what can only be described as outdated, colonial undertones to some of these stories.”

“As women Members of Parliament from all backgrounds, we stand with you in saying it cannot be allowed to go unchallenged,” the letter ended.
