‘Domestic violence is happening all around us,
so We Care is an important step in empowering women to seek the support and help they deserve.

‘We can’t turn a blind eye – as a community, we need to stand up, too. As
a country, we won’t tolerate it. It shouldn’t be swept under the carpet.’

‘It’s wonderful that New Idea is bringing an issue like this into the public eye. It’s about making readers aware, because domestic violence is still one of those unspoken taboos.

‘People need to know that this could be affecting people living next door, or even people in your family who aren’t prepared to talk about it. Women need to feel able and capable to speak out.

‘We can all help by keeping an eye and ear out, and saying something if things aren’t quite right with a loved one. We can also support charities as well as campaigns such as We Care, to provide much-needed funds for women.’

‘Domestic violence is a topic that needs to be discussed honestly, and a campaign
like We Care encourages that dialogue. Predominantly, this is violence against loved ones.

‘Family members affected by it are statistically women, mothers and children, and they all need to be openly supported by the wider community. Education is key here, for men and women, and it has to be done in
a very frank manner.

‘Any type of violence is never an option in dealing with intimate relationships – it’ll always create more problems than it solves.’

Fiona, Georgie and Lynne are joined by a long list of local celebrities horrified by this violent epidemic including Sunrise’s Natalie Barr, Weekend Sunrise’s Andrew O’Keefe, Melissa Doyle, Kylie Gillies, WSFM’s Brandan ‘Jonesy’ Jones and Amanda Keller.

We aim to help one woman a day in 2016 – but we need to try and help even more women.
