Alarming new research has revealed that 87% of children between the ages of three and six do not wash their hands properly.

The study conducted by Dettol also discovered that only a third of pre-schoolers consistently use soap when washing their hands, with only one in five washing their hands after playing, petting animals, sneezing, coughing, or blowing their nose.

Most shockingly, 60% of children wash their hands for less than 15 seconds, well below the recommended 20-plus seconds.

While early childhood educators and parents alike often recognise the importance of practicing good hand hygiene, there is a significant gap between awareness and consistent practice when it comes to kids.

That’s why Dettol has teamed up with beloved children’s entertainment group The Wiggles for a catchy new song (with an accompanying dance routine) to make hand-washing fun!

“With Wash Like The Wiggles, Dettol and The Wiggles are not only teaching children how to wash their hands properly but also making handwashing fun and memorable. By keeping the germs away, we can then keep children at play,” ANZ Marketing Director of Dettol parent company Reckitt Health shared with New Idea.

Red Wiggle Simon shared this sentiment, lamenting that the partnership was a natural fit, combining learning healthy hygiene habits with play and fun.

“We understand that teaching children about hygiene can be as challenging as getting them to eat their veggies. That’s why we’re pleased to work with Dettol on a unique approach to education that resonates with children and helps messages like these stick.”

“We’re super excited to be part of this great initiative, spreading joy instead of germs,” he added.
