E’Dena Hines, the granddaughter of Hollywood actor Morgan Freeman, was murdered in New York in 2015 and a witness has today revealed her last words to a court.
Cristna Aviles, a 22-year-old nursing student, revealed to court she was walking with friends around 2:50am on August 16 when they came upon Hines, 33, and her rapper boyfriend Lamar Davenport, 30.
‘They were arguing. She was on the [ground], and he was on top of her, restraining her, stopping her from getting loose from his grip,’ Aviles told.
‘I proceeded to call the cops,’ she added.
‘He was yelling things about releasing the devil out of her. And then he pulled out a knife.’
‘There was multiple stabs — the back, and then on the front of her chest and her neck,’ Aviles continued, describing how the killer raised the knife to the level of his forehead before bringing it down again into Hines each time.
‘She was on her stomach, and then she somehow flipped over, and he stabbed her on the chest. She was trying to get away from him by pushing him and kicking him.
‘And then she stopped and was still.’
As she was dying, Hines asked her boyfriend, ‘Why are you doing this?’
Davenport had allegedly stabbed Hines 25 times while in a drug-induced psychosis.
Freeman said at the time of Hines’ death, ‘The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer.’
Hines was the daughter of Freeman’s stepdaughter, whom he adopted when he married his first wife, Bradshaw. After the couple divorced, he married Myrna Colley-Lee. During their marriage, she formally adopted Hines and helped raise her.
