Three-year-old Kawa Sweeney has been declared brain dead by doctors at Princess Margaret Hospital in Perth.

The Sydney toddler was flown to Australia after she nearly drowned in a swimming pool in Bali over the weekend.

Now her parents, Des Sweeney and Dee Tang, must face the heartbreaking decision of turning off her life support.

Pearl Tan, a friend of the family, spoke about Kawa’s condition.

“There’s a lot of disbelief that this has happened and it’s quite difficult to think beyond the next five minutes right now,” she said to Seven News. 

“I know that the family are just talking and considering what to do next. But it’s a pretty tough situation for everyone.”

A Go Fund Me page, which has raised over $87k so far, was set up for Kawa to cover medical costs and for the flight back to Australia.

Her family and friends from Sydney have flown to Perth to be by her beside.

Her father shared an emotional post on Instagram following the incident, writing: ‘So much love for our little girl. This is Kawa at our favourite beach in Newport. Her special place. We are overwhelmed by your prayers, thoughts and well wishes Your meditations are received. They are getting us through this difficult time. Thank you.x’
