Former INXS guitarist Kirk Pengilly says he preferred the 1960s when you could ‘slap a woman on the bum’ and it was ‘taken as a compliment.’
Pengilly’s comments, made while he was attending a Movember charity event in Melbourne on Thursday, come amid sexual harassment claims levelled at Don Burke.
The 59-year-old said men were starting to feel they can’t even pay a woman a compliment because it could be seen as sexual harassment.
‘I really loved the 60s and 70s when life was so simple and you could slap a woman on the butt and it was taken as a compliment, not as sexual harassment,’ he said.
The outrageous comments come after he was asked to comment on the sexual harassment claims targeted at Burke.
The accusations towards Burke comes from women who worked on his gardening show Burke’s Backyard in the 1980s and 1990s, after a joint investigation by Fairfax/ABC.
He has been labelled a ‘psychotic bully’, a ‘misogynist’ and a ‘sexual predator’ by female employees.
The 70-year-old denied all allegations in a statement on Sunday.

Unsurprisingly, Twitter were FED up with Pengilly’s statement.
