The new rules for your hottest hair yet

Follow these five mantras to get the look you want this year

1. I must…

Master the art of DIY hair colour.

Not only will it save you money long term but it’s rewarding to do-it-yourself. Look for low-ammonia so it’s gentler on locks and maintains colour for longer too.

2. I must…

Use a mask weekly.

Get into the habit of popping one on a Sunday night before relaxing in front of the box and you’re setting yourself up for a week of glossy, manageable locks. ‘It can work wonders when treating daily damage your hair might endure such as using hot tools on colour treated hair or stripping the natural oils from hair when washing,’ says hairstylist and Pure Hair Food Brand Ambassador Jenny Kim.

3. I must…

Not over-use styling products.
Less is more but it doesn’t mean you can’t layer to get what you want. We love Batiste stylist range which was designed to combine together to achieve the look you are after, say a frizz tamer as well as a texturizer.

4. I must…

Use protective hot hair tools.
“I think hair should be treated similarly to skin,” says Jenny. “You wouldn’t expose your skin to the harsh sun without applying sunscreen because you would get burnt. So why would you use curling tongs, straightening irons or even a blow dryer without protecting your hair from the direct heat? Repeated use of these tools without protection can wreak havoc on your texture (which then leads to more ironing and blow drying) – and that in turn leads to devastatingly fragile hair that breaks.

5. I must…

Mix up my shampoo and conditioner.
There’s no rule that says you can’t use say a fine hair shampoo with a super-moisturising conditioner in the same range. Jenny says it can “absolutely” deliver you better results.
