Queen Elizabeth has surprised victims of the horrific Manchester terror attack by paying them a visit while they recover at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
The monarch arrived at the facility on Thursday, shortly after Britain engaged in a minute of silence to pay tribute to the 22 people who lost their lives and 119 injured in the devastating suicide bombing at the Ariana Grande concert earlier this week
According to The Telegraph, the royal met with 14-year-old Evie Mills, who had received tickets to the event as a birthday present.
She reportedly reassured her that “everyone is united” in the wake of the attacks and said: “It’s dreadful. Very wicked. To target that sort of thing.”
The Queen also added that Ariana was a “very good singer.”
She continued paying her respects throughout the tour, wishing the young sufferers a quick recovery.
The 91-year-old also expressed her sympathy with one of the victim’s parents, telling them that the incident was “not something you expect at all.”
During her brief visit, the Queen met with doctors and nurses who had contributed to saving the lives of those affected by the tragedy.
She explained to the members of staff that she was especially disheartened by the age of many of the victims.
“The awful thing was that everyone was so young,” she said.
Buckingham Palace released a statement on Tuesday on behalf of the longest reigning royal.
It read: “The whole nation has been shocked by the death and injury in Manchester last night of so many people, adults and children, who had just been enjoying a concert.”
“I know I speak for everyone in expressing my deepest sympathy to all who have been affected by this dreadful event and especially to the families and friends of those who have died or were injured.”
“I want to thank all the members of the emergency services, who have responded with such professionalism and care.”
“And I would like to express my admiration for the way the people of Manchester have responded, with humanity and compassion, to this act of barbarity.”
