Devastating news for Craig McLachlan

The Doctor Blake star faces a harsh reality

He may play one of the most popular doctors on TV, but Craig McLachlan is just as shocked as his fans by the news that his hit show, The Doctor Blake Mysteries, has been axed by the ABC.

Taking to Instagram, it seems that Craig cant understand why the national broadcaster has chosen to chop one of its few ratings hits, labelling the decision disappointing.

Like Poirot or Midsummer Murders, I always believed The Doctor Blake Mysteries could run and run. Certainly, one might think the viewing figures at home in Australia alone would support that notion, he wrote.

Friends, my glorious crew and I were ready to rock … what does that tell ya? There really is no business quite like show business!

The shows creative force, George Adams, says hes never encountered a decision like it before.

I’m not really sure what the reasons are and to some extent, I don’t really care. I’ve been doing this for 30 years and I’ve never been in a situation where a top rating show doesn’t carry on until it’s not a top rating show..

This appeared to contradict the ABCs earlier public statement on the matter, which included a statement attributed to Adams, which claimed we felt that we wanted to go out on a high.

Clearly something a bit odd is going on. Where’s Dr Blake when you need him?
