Yes, he is, but it wasn’t his first name change. At the beginnings of his radio career, he was nicknamed “Spidey.”

Then, in 2009, The Bachelor host, who used to go by the name Andrew G – ‘G’ short for his surname Günsberg, which was thought by some to be too awkward a name for a showbiz career – decided to change his first name from Andrew to Osher (a Hebrew word for happiness).

In a Facebook post explaining why, he says, “I met with a revered Shaman in Tel Aviv. He told me about the power of a name, and how what we call ourselves affects our lives”. Although at first he kept the name change private, at age 38, after the end of his first marriage and Australian Idol, he decided he needed to reboot his life and went public with the name change.

One day, Georgia was my girlfriend’s kid that I hung out with and played Dance Dance Extreme with on the Wii. And then the next day I felt like: “I would do anything to save this person’s life! Even if it meant pushing her out of the way of a train and I’d get killed, I would do it.” ‘

In 2018, Osher had an amazing body transformation after completing a 10-week Men’s Health regime, resulting in his weight dropping from 83kg to 76kg, shedding 9kg of body fat and gaining 2.5kg of muscle – plus a healthier outlook on life. He attributes the need to build a healthier body as part of his strategy to also build a healthier mind, with diet and exercise playing such an important role in mental health. “What I’ve found these last few months is that my response to triggers has just been dulled so much. I’ve found a way to take the edge off the world again through exercise,” Osher said. He has also spoken about how he has struggled with his weight since childhood.

Back in 2016, the Daily Mail published an article, partly titled “Osher Gunsberg shows off his ‘Bali Belly’,” which included intrusive images of the then tubbier presenter, shirtless and changing into a wetsuit, while on a private holiday in a remote location. Osher stood up for himself  and called the article bullying, writing a complaint to the Australian Press Council. As he says, “Body dysmorphia and the desire to be ‘fit and ripped’, powerful and handsome, like their male idols and celebrity worshipped heroes, leads many men down a garden path to feelings of worthlessness and self-hatred.”
