Back in 2007, the future Duchess of Cambridge was alleged affronted with ‘hundreds’ of cameras outside her Chelsea apartment, who then crowded around the couple as they made their way to Kate’s car.
At the time, the public held a particular fascination with William’s girlfriend, but it all came to a head on Kate’s 25th birthday when an angry Prince William was forced to address the mass attention his university sweetheart was receiving.
The incident led to Prince William spending Kate’s special day fuming, while this abrasive kind of intrusion upon Miss Middleton led to an uncomfortable birthday filled with tension.
At the time, a royal spokesman said: “Prince William is very unhappy at the paparazzi harassment of his girlfriend.
“He wants more than anything for it to stop.”
According to Express.co.uk, the British public was expecting a proposal announcement which meant more eyes than normal were upon the young couple.
Royal correspondent Roya Nikkhah said of the incident: “It was almost as if whatever she did – whether she went to work or didn’t want to go to work – she would be scrutinised and almost hounded.”
Kate and the Duke of Cambridge were married at Westminster Abbey in London, in April 2011.
William and Kate share three children together, Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 4, and Prince Louis, 1.
