There has been growing speculation in royal circles that the duchess has been trying for a fourth child, but now there’s talk she could already be expecting. And all signs suggest that an official announcement from Kensington Palace is imminent.

Adding even further joy, Charlotte has been asking for a sister to play with, and that wish could be about to come true.

“I always thought Kate wanted to have three children because she comes from a family of three siblings, but now I’m convinced she’s delighted to have four,” royal expert and author of Royally Suited: Harry and Meghan in Their Own Words.

Phil Dampier tells New Idea. “You can see what a wonderful mother she is and she would also love little Louis to have a sister of a similar age, just as George has Charlotte.”

Earlier this year the duchess, 37, unexpectedly admitted that she was feeling “broody” while attending one of her royal engagements in Northern Ireland shortly after the birth of her nephew – Harry and Meghan’s first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor – on May 6.

“I don’t think William wanted more than two children, but he has been talked into it by Kate,” Phil says, adding Kate had been talking to Princess Mary of Denmark, who has four children, about extending her brood for some time now.

“It would be lovely to have two of each sex, just as Princess Mary does,” Phil continues. “Kate talks to her and just loves the dynamic.” In another sign that the duchess could be expecting, she has reportedly been spotted visiting the same doctor’s office where she was photographed collecting scan results during her pregnancy with Charlotte back in 2014.

Meanwhile, news of another royal baby couldn’t come at a better time for Kate and William, who earlier this year were forced to shrug off rumours that the prince had been unfaithful with the couple’s family friend and neighbour, Rose Hanbury.

According to reports, Kate had a major falling out with the former model, who’s married to David Rocksavage, when unsubstantiated rumours surfaced that she and William had been having an affair for years – a subject the palace has declined to comment on. “There were rumours that their marriage was under strain, and this can bring them back together,” Phil explains. “They have had a rocky patch but another baby would be the perfect antidote and answer any of the rumour-mongers.”

Plus, the news comes as Kensington Palace confirmed that Kate and Wills are going solo with their charity foundation and forging new plans. So it’s an exciting time for the royal couple and double the reason to celebrate.

However, Kate suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum during all three of her previous pregnancies, which eventually landed her in hospital while she was carrying Prince George. But the severe sickness, which causes acute nausea and vomiting, hasn’t deterred her from having another baby.

“Kate enjoys family life more than anything else and it’s all pretty idyllic up at Anmer Hall in Norfolk,” Phil adds.

“Another pregnancy enables Kate to keep a relatively low profile and not overshadow her husband, as she has a good reason not to do too many royal jobs.”
