Stepping aboard the luxury yacht looking bronzed, relaxed and giggling with friends, the Duchess of Cornwall’s glamorous Sardinian vacation was missing just one thing: her husband, Prince Charles.
As Camilla, 71, sunned herself in an array of colourful swimsuits after jetting to the Italian island, the question on everyone’s lips was, “Why wasn’t Charles with her?”
Following New Idea’s revelations earlier this month that the prince had thrown Camilla out of their Clarence House home, those close to the duchess say she is hell-bent on hitting back at Charles.
“Camilla has been left humiliated since Charles kicked her out and has been plotting revenge. She’s absolutely furious,” a source close to Camilla tells New Idea.
“Even though Charles has made it clear, Camilla is committed to getting him back – she won’t let him and the rest of the royal family take away her place at the throne when the time comes.”
However, Charles isn’t the only member of the royal family to see red over Camilla’s latest antics.
The Queen is said to be “mortified” by Camilla’s holiday parade, and thinks the party- loving royal is frittering away palace money on unnecessary luxury holidays.
Keen to show off her curves, Camilla wore a selection of flattering one-pieces while aboard the yacht. And when the royal wasn’t busy topping up her tan, she was giggling away with several mysterious male companions.
“The Queen is positively livid over Camilla’s holiday,” a palace source tells New Idea. “The royals have had their annual summer holiday and now it’s the time for them to buckle down and get back to work – but instead, Camilla is gallivanting around Europe in her swimsuit and partying on boats. The whole thing has really set the Queen off. She couldn’t be more angry.”
Camilla once pulled out of a Middle East tour because aides said she found it “too hot,” and many of her public engagements merely involve attending a family party, joint visits with Charles, or receiving guests.
So it’s no wonder Camilla’s jaunt to Sardinia – while Charles was busy attending charity events in England last week – is said to be the final straw for the exasperated Queen.
“Seeing her lounge about in her swimsuit and party on boats is just a massive slap in the face to Charles and the Queen. This might be Camilla’s way of getting revenge on her husband for wanting a divorce after all their marital troubles – but the Queen just sees it as a massive betrayal.”
