As we inch closer and closer towards the release date of Prince Harry’s upcoming memoir, Spare, it looks like the royal family are growing further and further apart.

In fact, a palace insider told OK Magazine that Prince William “has barely spoken” to Harry since Spare was first announced to the public.

This isn’t the only rift Spare has created; another insider has claimed that King Charles III plans to prohibit Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle from attending the official coronation ceremony if Harry’s memoir portrays Queen Consort Camilla in a negative light.

“Almost everything Charles has done over the past 20 years has, in one way or another, been about getting Camilla accepted by the public,” the source said.

“He loves her. He is incredibly protective of her and he couldn’t do it without her. Even [Queen Elizabeth] finally accepted that.”

“It is one thing for Harry to attack Charles, he can take it on the chin, but if Harry forces him to choose, by laying into Camilla in his book, I have no doubt he will choose Camilla,” the insider concluded.

Of course, as soon as the title of Prince Harry’s memoir was announced, the entire royal family reportedly started “dreading” its release.

Apparently, the loaded title – which obviously refers to the common but cruel saying about William and Harry, “the heir and the spare” – caused the royal family to fear that the book will be “critical of everyone and everything”.

They’re also concerned that Spare as a title is “controversial” and “provocative”.

As a royal insider said, “That title is loaded and it does not bode well.”

The royals are also reportedly upset that the Duke of Sussex didn’t warn them about the memoir in advance, which has led them to worry about whether the book will delve into sensitive topics.

Such as, the death of Harry’s mother Princess Diana, or why Harry’s relationship with his father, King Charles III, and brother, William, is so strained.

The family is also allegedly anxious about whether Spare will reveal which royal specifically made the alleged racist comments (first brought to the public’s attention in an explosive interview between Harry, Meghan and Oprah Winfrey) about Harry’s son, Archie, before he was born.

While it remains to be seen whether these topics actually are featured in Spare, it’s likely that Harry’s memoir will explore at least Diana’s death.

Spare takes readers immediately back to one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow and horror,” the press release from Penguin Random House read.

However, the royal family might not have to worry about Spare at all. Why?

Well, according to palace insiders, as soon as Queen Elizabeth II passed away, Harry requested a number of alterations be made to his memoir amid fears that the final draft “might not go down well” with his family.

“There may be things in the book which might not look so good if they come out so soon after [the Queen’s death]. He wants sections changed now. It’s not a total rewrite by any means. He desperately wants to make changes. But it might be too late,” one insider said.

Spare will be released on January 10, 2023 and an audiobook version, read by Prince Harry himself, will also be released on that date. You can pre-order it here.
