We know him as the attractive bad-boy from Stranger Things, but is there more to Dacre Montgomery than meets the eye?

While the Australian actor dazzled fans with his roguish looks as Billy Hargrove on the Netflix series, Dacre says it took some tough criticism to get him there.

In a recent Instagram post, the star opened up about his “really tough” childhood.

The 24-year-old shared a photo of himself as a child and made a heartbreaking confession about his past in the caption.

“When I was 16 I was told I needed to lose weight,” Dacre admitted in the caption.

The Aussie also confessed that he had a tough time in school, being a larger child who enjoyed drama class.

“I never got passing grades, I wasn’t popular or a gifted sports player. Girls were never interested in me,” he wrote.

The actor also sadly admitted to suffering from anxiety.

I was distracted and I wasn’t focused,” said Dacre.

In June, Dacre told Men’s Health that he was even bullied because of his weight.

However, the actor says the experience helped him when playing the role of the bully in Stranger Things.

“You know, any bully or person that you’ve had in your life that has been antagonistic towards you. It was about finding those qualities and representing them,” he said.

The actor says that due to his unwavering commitment to his dreams, he was able to lose weight, attend drama school and grow from his failures.

“I believed in myself and I never let anyone tell me otherwise,” Dacre wrote.

The star also shared some motivational messages in the caption, stating that he never stopped believing in himself.

“You can do anything you set your mind to. So, go out there and get it!”
