Unless you’ve been living under a soundproof rock, you’ll be familiar with high-rating radio hosts Hamish Blake and Andy Lee.
What you might not know however, is that the duo recently announced that they’ll be taking four weeks off from radio.
Blake, 35, joked that the break was a reward for Lee following the success of his celebrity fragrance – ‘Andy’ by Hamish – but the real reason is much more humbling.
Blake and his wife Zoe Foster Blake, 36-year-old author, Go-To owner and all-around cool lady, are expecting their second child any day now. Ever the supportive dad (have you seen his Instagram?) Hamish will be taking paternity leave to spend time with his growing family.
According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), just one in fifty Australian men take paternity leave despite being entitled to two weeks of government-funded pay.
The reason has long been paired with archaic gender expectations, unsupportive employers and financial constraints, but Hamish’s announcement is a welcome step in the right direction.
