It’s been a tough few months for an embattled Victoria Beckham. Amid reports her marriage is under stress and that she and David seemed distant over Christmas, it’s now been revealed her fashion business is losing millions a year.
Just hours after news broke last month that Victoria’s clothing label had reported losses of nearly $18 million, the designer seemed downcast as she joined an equally solemn David and her parents Jackie and Tony Adams for an evening at London nightclub Annabel’s.
Indeed, there are reports Victoria, 44, is feeling the strain behind the scenes too. Radar Online has claimed the slim star is on a restrictive diet of nuts and berries and, according to a source, is “avoiding balanced meals in a big way”.
The insider adds, “It’s tied to her marriage and career stress, but this is a pattern she never seems capable of breaking. The more stressed she gets, the less she eats – it’s that simple and won’t change.”
While Victoria admitted to having issues around eating while she was in the Spice Girls, she’s always denied having a problem, saying in 2017 that she “eats well”.
Meanwhile, the week before, The Sun newspaper reported on the observed tension between David, 43, and Victoria at the British Fashion Awards.
An onlooker claimed the couple sat together during the ceremony – which saw Victoria miss out on winning Best Womenswear Designer of the Year – but moved apart at the afterparty.
While photos showed the pair sitting with their backs to each other, the insider noted, “They were only seen briefly speaking to each other once in about 25 minutes before they left,” adding,
“They made an effort to look cosier when a crowd built around their table.”
Adding further fuel to the fire, it seems Christmas in the Beckham household was also tense, with the couple sharing photos without one another on social media.
Speculation about the Beckhams’ future has been building for months after David admitted during an interview in October that his marriage was “hard work”.
David cut ties with longterm business partner and manager, Simon Fuller – who is also Victoria’s manager – and earlier this year, the couple sold their $33 million home in Los Angeles, sparking rumours that they were starting to sell off their assets.
Meanwhile, Victoria has reportedly met with ‘conscious uncoupling’ guru Katherine Woodward Thomas – who helped Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin through their split in 2014 – for advice.
“Victoria met with Katherine on her recent trip to LA and asked for help with how to navigate through their split as civilly and amicably as possible, so they could still be as much of a family unit for the children as they could,” a source tells New Idea.
While it’s long been speculated that David’s wealth has helped bolster Victoria’s fashion label, with the possibility of a split comes the likelihood that her business could be under threat.
If that happens, Victoria could consider joining her former Spice Girls band mates on their upcoming world tour to relieve some of the financial pressure.
And while Mel B still appears determined to encourage Victoria to join the 2019 tour – in a recent interview, she proclaimed, “I’ve got between now and April to get Victoria to do it” – the designer is likely nervous about any more dealings with the famously loose-lipped X Factor judge.
According to our insider, Victoria fears Scary Spice Mel might re-open speculation over a long-held rumour that the clothing designer had an affair with producer Damon Dash during the early years of her marriage to David.
“Mel B has been talking a lot and because she and Posh have fallen out, Victoria’s nervous her arch-rival might spill the beans,” the source reveals.
The unfounded rumours supposedly took place in 2003, just four years after she married David and a year after having her now 16-year-old son, Romeo.
Victoria recorded a hip-hop influenced album – which was never released – with the Roc-A-Fella producer; became the face and body of his Rocawear clothing label and press reports at the time claimed they were under each other’s ‘spell’.
While Damon has always denied they had an affair, four years later he hinted that his relationship with Victoria had caused tension in her marriage, saying he “wouldn’t blame David if he was jealous”.
