Sophie Monk: the truth about my shock collapse

14-years later, the reality star explains what really happened!

When Sophie Monk collapsed on the 2004 Logies red carpet, media went into a frenzy as to why.

At the time, a spokesperson for Monk revealed ‘she wasn’t feeling well’ and had ‘gone upstairs to rest’.

Finally, 14-years on from that dramatic day, Monk has told TheFIX exactly what happened.

It was my own fault,’ she tells the publication. ‘I was a little bit too big for the dress, and they couldn’t zip it up. So, they said just go in the sauna and come out every 15 minutes, and do that for a while. But they didn’t tell me to drink water.’

‘So, I walked down the carpet and passed out,’ Monk, who was 23 at the time, adds. ‘I got wheeled out, and I made more headlines than anyone who won a Logie, so I won in that way, I guess.’

‘It came up on every network saying, ‘Warning! Sophie’s passed out at the Logies!’ I was like, ugh, way to make an entrance.’

The former Bachelorette star claims she quickly recovered but was not allowed to return to the event.

‘I was actually fine, and I asked my publicist if I could go back,’ Sophie explains. ‘But she said, no, maybe it’s best to just stay in bed.’

Media began to quickly speculate that Monk had suffered a collapse due to an eating disorder, or other unknown personal issues.

‘Nowadays, with social media, you can talk, but back then I couldn’t explain what happened,’ she says. ‘So, they were just saying it was food [related] or whatever, which it wasn’t. It was just purely I was an idiot getting in a sauna.’

Monk maintains that the horrifying experience has turned her off saunas for good.

‘I’ve never been in a sauna again. Never, ever,’ she tells. ‘Steam room maybe, but nah. Never doing that again. Not worth it.’
