Roseanne spin-off ‘The Conners’ approved by ABC

However, minus it's main character.

ABC, the network that cancelled Roseanne, following the racist tweet saga from lead actress Roseanne Barr, has today confirmed a spin-off ‘The Conner’s’ will be returning to TV.

The spin-off, however, will not include Barr.

The ABC ordered 10 episodes of the new show after Barr agreed to forgo any creative or financial participation in it.

In a statement issued by the show’s producer, Barr said she agreed to the settlement in order to save the jobs of 200 cast and crew members.

ABC said Thursday that the new series will star John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert and other ‘Roseanne’ co-stars.

According to TMZ sources, a spin off centred around Sara Gilbert’s character Darlene and her children is in the works.

Her character Darlene, a mother of two, ended the rebooted season 10 stuck unhappily in a job as a cocktail waitress on a riverboat casino.

Several season 10 story-lines focused on Darlene’s children Harris (Emma Kenney) and Mark (Ames McNamara), including Harris’ misbehaviour and Mark’s preference for women’s clothing.

The news follows the disgraced actresses first public outing since the scandal broke, with the 65 year old spotted in Utah puffing on a cigarette whilst talking on the phone.

The revival of the hit 1988-97 sitcom Roseanne was axed by ABC after Barr posted a tweet likening former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett to a product of the Muslim Brotherhood and ‘Planet of the Apes.’

Earlier this motnh, Barr’s co-star John Goodman broke his silence on the controversy.

In a video obtained by ET, the actor can be heard seemingly disinterested in the whole matter.

‘I wasn’t gonna get an Emmy anyway,’ Goodman says in the footage.

‘I’ve been up there [11] times already, and if I didn’t get one I’m not gonna get one,’ he adds.

Barr defeneded her words on Twitter, claiming they were ‘insensitive’, not racist.
