It’s been a dreadful week for the Today Show favourite Richard Wilkins – who has had trouble with his friend Karl Stefanovic, and now been called out in spectacular style by an international pop sensation.
Wilkins, who is usually seen as a friend of the stars, has been slated by singer Dua Lipa, after he strongly suggested she had blown out her Australian tour to promote herself on American TV.
The vocalist was committed to supporting Bruno Mars on his Australian tour, but had to pull out of some gigs due to a medical issue.
‘Dua Lipa cancelled her appearances last weekend, as a result of having to have immediate surgery to have her wisdom teeth removed,’ Richard told his fans. ‘But get this, here she is last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!’
But surely the footage could have been pre-taped? Not according to Richard, who boldly stated: ‘We were told that was live to air …’.
Unfortunately for Richard, Dua Lipa was aware of what he said, and took to social media to set the record more than straight.
‘Lol @RichardWilkins if you were a good journalist you would’ve done proper research instead of talking out of your ass,’ she said. ‘Jimmy Kimmel was shot in Feb in La and aired yesterday. I’ve been in Australia on bed rest and wouldn’tve cancelled my Bruno shows if I didn’t have to. @9NowAU‘
Wilkins immediately apologised, admitting he had in fact ‘assumed’ the show was live. What happened to ‘we were told’?
‘Sincere apologies @DUALIPA,’ he wrote. ‘Didn’t mean to misinform. Assumed you were live with Jimmy K. your fans and my son have severely castigated me!’
According to Sydney’s Daily Telegraph newspaper, the notoriously sensitive Dickie has been the hardest hit member of the cast following New Idea‘s revelations of Karl’s comments about his co-stars, and he has been ‘hurt by [Karl’s] sledge’ and ‘was noticeably subdued on [the] program.’
The two men were believed to be very friendly off screen before the scandal, and now questions have been raised about the future of their bond. .
