Despite a tough few weeks following Peter Stefanovic’s departure from Channel Nine, it seems the popular journalist and his wife Sylvia Jeffreys finally have something to celebrate – a baby is on the way!
With Sylvia protectively cradling her growing baby bump and grinning from ear to ear, New Idea understands the pair are over the moon and can’t wait to be parents.
According to a Nine insider, Pete, 37, and Sylvia, 32, did not want their special news to take the focus away from Karl and Jasmine’s wedding in Mexico but now back on home soil the lovebirds couldn’t be more excited.
“It’s a dream come true for both of them,” says a friend.
“It’s just what they need after the year from hell and they’re not letting anything overshadow this moment.”
Having already discussed favourite names, Sylvia is hoping their bundle of joy will bring a new focus for her husband.
“They will both be fantastic parents,” says the friend. “Sylvia has been clucky for a long time and was overjoyed when Peter agreed the timing was right.”
Previously revealing there was nothing they wanted more than to fill their new home with kids it was journalist Peter who was worried how they would cope being so busy with work.
But now Pete’s been shown the door by Network Nine after 15 years, Sylvia is hoping he will be around more in the early months with a newborn.
“They were working separate shifts through last year and hardly got to see one another,” the friend adds.
“While it’s not ideal that his time at Nine came to an end so abruptly Sylvia figures they may as well make the most of it and a family is perfect.”
