We’re all excited for New Year’s Eve so we can say goodbye to the rollercoaster year that was 2023 and enter 2024 with a fresh feeling.

As expected, people like to dance the night away on New Year’s Eve and enter the new year feeling happy and surrounded by friends and family.

The real question is, whatever your New Year’s plans may be, will the weather cooperate?

While weather predictions aren’t always accurate, we’ve done some research to figure out exactly what the weather is supposed to be doing in each of Australia’s capital cities on New Year’s Eve.

Sydney

You can expect the temperature to reach 22 degrees on New Year’s Eve with some clouds, however, New Year’s Day will reach a top of 24 degrees with expected rain.

The night will get to a low of 19 degrees with some clouds and winds A dress will keep you a comfortable temperature with all that dancing but perhaps consider a light jacket!

Brisbane

What is summer in Brisbane without a few storms? AccuWeather is currently predicting one on New Year’s Eve that will leave January 1 looking cloudy.

Fortunately, the temperatures are expected to hit 30 degrees on New Year’s Eve and 28 degrees on New Year’s Day… so at least you’ll be warm in your party outfit.

Melbourne

AccuWeather is predicting a surprisingly cool New Year’s Eve, with temperatures hitting 21 on New Year’s Eve and 24 degrees on New Year’s Day.

Though it’s anticipated to be a cloudy day on New Year’s Eve, the rain isn’t meant to come until the following day. This means your New Year’s Eve party will hopefully be dry!

Adelaide

Expect a lovely start to 2024 in Adelaide, where the temperatures will go from 25 degrees on New Year’s Eve to 27 degrees on January 1. The perfect temperature!

As for the sun, AccuWeather says it will be ducking in and out from behind clouds over both days.

Canberra

Canberra is predicted to have cloudy weather on New Year’s Eve with a top of 21 degrees, however, the evening will get to a low of 14 degrees with a passing shower late. It might be a good idea to have a jacket on you! 

New Year’s Day will follow with a top of 23 degrees and partly cloudy.

Hobart

It’s going to be a chilly start to 2024 in Hobart, where AccuWeather is predicting a top temperature of just 19 degrees on New Year’s Eve and 22 degrees and cloudy on New Year’s Day.

Unfortunately the evening will get to a low of 14 degrees and late rain.

Perth

It’s going to be sunny and temperate in Perth for New Year’s Eve, with some cloud cover on the day itself.

AccuWeather predicts the weather will be a very similar across both days with a high of 29 degrees.

It is going to be a HOT start for Darwin in 2024. Maxing out at 35 degrees on New Year’s Eve and 36 degrees on New Year’s Day… a beach day might be a good idea!

The night will get to a low of 28 degrees which is still very warm so make sure to dress comfortably.
