Saskia Hampele reveals the real reason she quit Neighbours

And what it would take for her to return

Saskia Hampele left Neighbours fans heartbroken when her character Georgia Brooks left for Germany back in 2015.

But she made a brief return to the series as a guest in 2016 and now Saskia, who spent time in the US after leaving the show, has revealed the real reason she quit.

“One of the reasons I decided to leave Neighbours is because once you are at Neighbours you are very much locked into that role for as long as you are on the show,” she tells New Idea.

“It doesn’t give you flexibility to play other characters, and for me after three years of playing one character I didn’t feel very challenged anymore.”

But, she did admit that she would consider returning permanently on one condition.

“Unless they have a character with multiple personalities to keep jumping between different roles… going back permanently isn’t in my plans,” she reveals.

Of course, Saskia looks back fondly on her time at Neighbours.

“It was a dream role and it was a great learning ground,” she says. “I am really close with my Neighbours family.”

Meanwhile, Saskia is about to appear on new show, The Heights.

Set against the backdrop of a social housing tower in Arcadia, and the rapidly gentrifying community that surrounds it, The Heights is set to tackle many of the social issues that Australia faces today.

“The Heights is a show that everyone can enjoy, but it doesn’t shy away from those taboo or challenging topics that might not get explored on the screen,” she says.

“Hopefully it will produce some conversations with families around the dinner table.”

The Heights starts February 22 at 8:30pm on ABC.
