We get to know My Kitchen Rules 2019 contestants Stacey and Ash, as they open up to New Idea about how Ash lost his eye.
By now you’d have to be living under a rock to not recognise MKR’s “friendly pirate.” Byron Bay Instagram star Ash, 34, has found a strong following thanks to his appearance on promos doing the rounds on Channel Seven, with many asking what happened when he lost his eye eight years ago.
“I was at a party in Surfers Paradise,” he says. “[It’s not like I ran] across the road to try to stop a fight. I tried to calm it down and push two guys apart. One guy tried to hit another guy with a glass and got me.”
The laid-back surfer – who is competing on the show with fiancee Stacey – says despite undergoing multiple surgeries which resulted in him losing his eye, he never wanted to press charges against the man who injured him.
“I didn’t press charges because I wanted to get over it. I didn’t want to go through court and I didn’t want to try and drag money out of the court or people. I just wanted to move on and get on with life.”
