Karl Stefanovic could be making his breakfast TV comeback if a Today show rival has his way.

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Sunrise producer Michael Pell has backed a campaign to get Karl his Today job back, to provide some healthy competition for his Channel Seven show.
Michael, 36, admitted to the publication that he has a recording on his phone of Pauline Hanson saying, “Should we bring Karl back?”
The producer even addressed rumours that he uses the soundbite as his ringtone.
“I play it a lot and people say it should be my ringtone because I play it so often,” he admitted.
The soundbite Michael is referring to was from a Today segment back in December 2018, when Pauline was interviewed by Deborah Knight, and blamed the show’s poor ratings on Karl’s sacking.
After Deborah pressed Pauline on her falling support ahead of the election, the Queensland Senator swiped straight back at the presenter.
“I’ve actually gone up since the last election, unlike your show, Deb, since you have taken over you have gone down in your viewership,” Pauline said.
“So, should you hand over your job or should we bring Karl back? Should we bring Karl back? You have a go at me about this all the time.”
