After being dumped by Channel 9 last year, Karl Stefanovic has shocked fans with the announcement that he’ll be making a surprise return to the Australian TV network later this year.

In a shock TV turnaround, Karl, 44, will be returning to Channel 9 to host the second season of hit show, This Time Next Year.

In the first promotional trailer for Nine’s 2019 TV lineup, the ex Today host makes a two-second appearance which doesn’t exactly give much away about what we can expect this season.

Gold Logie winner, Karl, finished filming the second season of This Time Next Year in February, and the show is expected to air in the coming months.

In late December, following his dismissal from Today, Karl risked being blacklisted by his own employer by ‘liking’ a series of eyebrow-raising Instagram comments.

One of the comments he liked read: “I can’t wait until [the Today Show producers] realise it wasn’t you that was the problem after all.”

The high-profile TV host’s sacking from the Today Show was confirmed in December.

“Nine and Karl Stefanovic have agreed it is time for him to step off the Today Show,” Darren Wick, director of news and current affairs at Nine, said in a statement at the time.

“Karl remains on contract with the network and will continue to host This Time Next Year, which records in February.”
