Karl Stefanovic has shocked viewers and Bindi Irwin after an eyebrow raising moment made on Thursday’s Today Show.
Appearing on the breakfast program alongside boyfriend Chandler Powell to commemorate Steve Irwin day, the loved-up pair spoke to the panel and gushed about the Crocodile Hunter’s legacy.
Karl took the conversation in a surprising direction when he suggested Bindi’s late father would not have approved of Chandler.
“Chandler, I don’t want to be uncharitable, but I’m not sure Steve would have liked you,” Karl told the pair.
“I’m not sure Steve would have liked anyone going out with his daughter,” he continued.
Continuing Karl said, “Just that sheer legacy and that sheer manliness, it’s a lot to live up to.
Chandler didn’t seem to expect the conversation to take that turn and skirted around the remark with his response.
“Definitely. It definitely is an honour just to be able to continue his legacy and I’m the luckiest guy in the world,” Chandler replied.
But Karl just continued to probe the Wildlife Warrior.
Bindi said, “I think Dad would have said you’ve got to swim the croc pond first and you’ll be set. So lucky Chandler used to wakeboard.
“It works out!” she said, before sighing, “Oh dear.”
